    Coffee with a bit of sugar

    We are loving our coffee with a bit of sugar.  It is true that we love those mornings when we have time to sit while we sip our coffee and converse before we dig into our projects, but the coffee in our cups has a bit of cream, not sugar.  The coffee that we love with a bit of sugar is in reference to our finishes.  The name of the floor stain is called “coffee” and the paint color that we will use throughout the house is called “bit of sugar”.     Filling in the gaps

    As a teacher, the importance of helping a student fill in the gaps is a big part of my mission.  A student will often become frustrated or discouraged if they don’t understand and then come to the dreaded conclusion they are dumb.  Helping a student fill in knowledge gaps can help them push past that feeling and learn that putting in extra time is often all that is needed.     Taking the pressure off

    To take some pressure off our schedule we hired out the roof cleaning (pressure washing). While the roof was being cleaned progress was happening in the kitchen with the first shiplap installation.  Next…cabinets! Sorry, floors are covered but will soon be revealed.     Taking off a layer in the summer heat

    A person living in Washington state understands the concept of layering.  Just yesterday we were wearing a t-shirt and sweatshirt even though we are in summer.  Today the sweatshirt layer was removed and only a t-shirt was needed.   The stripping of a layer for this old farmhouse is not nearly as simple as taking off that cozy sweatshirt.  Stripping the 94-year aged paint layers is going to take a lot of work and time.   We don’t want to neglect this sweet old place for another winter so the exterior is being bumped up on our priority list.  We will do some rebuilding of the porch and removing the layers of…
